The name Schwank is known worldwide for advancing the technology of gas infrared ceramic tile burners for heating and process applications. Development, research, manufacturing and the application of these ceramic burners have a long tradition within Schwank. Furthermore, these components play a critical role in creating the most efficient heating system solutions for industry, commerce and domestic use.


The world’s first ceramic burner was developed by Günther Schwank, the founder of the Schwank Group, in 1936. Since then, Schwank has progressed as a leading manufacturer of ceramic burner tiles (slabs), continuously improving ceramics & burners to generate the maximum performance and efficiency.


Günther Schwank used this innovation as the basis for inventing and patenting the world’s first luminous gas-fired infrared heater in 1938. This original ceramic gas burner design heralded a significant advance in heating systems technology, laying the foundations for today’s latest and most efficient heating system outcomes in terms of performance and carbon emissions reduction. 


The radiant heat ceramic tile that Schwank manufactures today, known as the ceraSchwank, incorporates approx. 3,600 passages in which the gas-air mixture combusts consistently and cleanly. The radiant heat under tile brings the ceramic surface temperature up to 1,500oC, emitting infrared radiation on similar principles to the sun, a process that can create the most efficient heating system because warmth is generated directly at the point where it is needed.


Both the plaque (luminous) and tube infrared ceramic tile heater have an extensive range of applications. The technology stemming from the ceramic burner and ceramic burner tiles has been employed to provide comfortable, controllable heat for manufacturing facilities, warehouses, sports stadiums, airport hangars, churches, livestock facilities and in many other types of location.
